Endocrine Disruption and Unconventional Oil and Gas Production

TEDX presents teleconference calls on how chemicals associated with unconventional oil and gas development (known as fracking) may be affecting endocrine function, reproduction and prenatal development. Hear scientists deliver short presentations on their recent research, followed by Q&A. Listen to MP3 recordings using the links below.

Thursday September 15, 2016, 1-1:30 pm Eastern -  Listen to the recording of Dr. Susan Nagel presenting on Endocrine disrupting activity associated with oil and natural gas extraction.

Thursday June 2, 2016, 2-2:30 pm Eastern - Listen to the recording of Dr. Nicole Deziel presenting on A systematic evaluation of chemicals in hydraulic-fracturing fluids and wastewater for reproductive and developmental toxicity.

Thursday May 5th, 2016, 2-2:30 pm Eastern - Listen to the recording of Dr. Shaina Stacy presenting on Perinatal outcomes and unconventional natural gas development in Southwest Pennsylvania.

Thursday April 7th, 2-2:30 pm Eastern – Listen to the recording of Dr. Chris Kassotis presenting on Unconventional oil and gas extraction and endocrine disruptors: Implications for human and animal health.

Videos and webinars featuring TEDX staff

The popular video What You Need to Know About Natural Gas Production has educated and motivated individuals nationwide to organize and address the environmental and health issues raised by natural gas operations. In it, Dr. Theo Colborn illustrates how natural gas is not the 'clean energy' that industry touts it to be and calls for full public disclosure of all chemicals involved in drilling and fracturing. (47 min., 2009, TEDX)

This CHE Partner call, Fracking: Implications for Human and Environmental Health,  featured Dr. Theo Colborn and three other leading researchers in different fields of expertise who discussed the potential human and environmental health implications of fracking. (60 min., November 2010, The Collaborative on Health and the Environment)

In Natural Gas: The Rest of the Story, Dr. Theo Colborn speaks to an audience in western Colorado on the hazards posed to human and environmental health by air pollution from natural gas operations. (24 min., March 2012, Citizens for a Healthy Community)

View a short video on The Fossil Fuel Connection featuring Dr. Theo Colborn. (6 min., 2013, LinkTV.org)

Physicians Scientists and Engineers for Healthy Energy (PSE) implemented a Continuing Medical Education (CME) course that was presented by Dr. Theo Colborn, titled Natural Gas Operations, Air Emission Exposure, and Recommendations to the Healthcare Community. (45 min., April 2014, PSE)

Dr. Carol Kwiatkowski speaks about the public health implications of natural gas operations, with an emphasis on air pollution and the risks they might hold for vulnerable populations, including children and pregnant women: Natural Gas Development, Public Health and Protecting the Most Vulnerable Populations. (50 min., April 2014, Center for Environmental Health)

Dr. Carol Kwiatkowski presents an overview of unconventional oil and gas development, and research results from air sampling in Garfield and Delta Counties in Colorado. Fracking Here? Think About It! was one presentation at a community forum held in Hotchkiss, CO. (40 min., April 2015, Citizens for a Healthy Community)
