Endocrine Disruption: Widening the Scope

Maternal Bisphenol A Programs Offspring Metabolic Syndrome

Please join us Wednesday September 17th at 1:00 EDT for a teleconference presentation by Michael Ross (MD, MPH) and Mina Desai (PhD). Drs. Ross and Desai will present evidence that prenatal exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), specifically the plastic component Bisphenol A, can increase the relative risk of adult obesity and metabolic syndrome. They will also discuss the significance of these findings for neonatal and childhood care, and the need for strategies for the prevention and therapy of obesity to address programming effects of the early life environment.

Click here to RSVP, and for more information on the call, including speaker biographies and related articles.

Dr. Ross is a Distinguished Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA. Dr. Desai is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Director of Perinatal Research at Los Angeles Biomedical Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

This half-hour teleconference call is the seventh in a monthly series sponsored by the Collaborative on Health and the Environment’s EDC Strategies Group.*  In the series, invited speakers present the latest research on endocrine disruption and the immune system, the metabolic system, the brain, behavior and more.

RSVP here for the September 17th teleconference call with Dr. Michael G. Ross and Dr. Mina Desai.

Previous presentations in the series are available as MP3 recordings:

January 8th Dr. Rodney Dietert: Endocrine Disruption and Immune Dysfunction.

February 19th Dr. Jamie DeWitt: Endocrine Disruption of the Neuro-immune Interface.

March 19th Dr. Frederica Perera: Effects of Prenatal Exposure to EDCs on Childhood Development.

April 16th Dr. Philippe Grandjean: How the Next Generation's Brain Functions are Endangered by EDCs and Other Environmental Chemicals.

May 21st Retha Newbold: CLARITY BPA: A Novel Approach to Studying Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals.
